The Real Deal?

Jay Bruce (finally) made his first Big League appearance last night for the Reds and, man, did he ever look good...

Now, can he keep up the momentum? Looking over the Reds roster lately, they have a ton of young potential - Bruce, Votto, Volquez, Cueto, Bailey, Encarnacion, Janish - that could anchor this team for years. I've got my fingers crossed...

I was watching on MLB.com off and on last night and I was fired up. I think there is no way the Reds don't get better and better. We have amazing young talent, and our roster is looking so good, it's getting hard to figure out who to let go to make room. I wish we could have traded Griffey to Texas instead of Hamilton!!!

I look at our future all-star lineup like this:

Lineup:
RF Freel
SS Keppinger
CF Bruce
2B Philips
RF Dunn
1B Votto
3B Encarnacion
C Ross

Bench: Hopper, Bako, Gonzalez, Hairston

Look at that - I can't see hitting Votto higher than 6th!!! That lineup is killer! Of course, it means Griffey has to go. I say keep Dunn at all costs. I love that guy. He hits bombs when you need them, and gets a ton of walks to counter his big Ks.

Rotation:
Harang, Volquez, Arroyo, Cueto, Bailey

We also have Belisle now and Thompson in AAA lighting it up. Belisle and Arroyo can be quickly replaced. Is Bailey a #5 starter??? Man, I'll take that as a #5.

Our bullpen is amazing as is, but I would back off using Weathers as a setup man.

In all, we currently have all the pieces for a Championship run. You just can't expect 4 true rookies to lead you to the promised land this year. Bruce and Votto will come back to Earth soon. Volquez will have his slump as well. I do think Cueto will improve though. I think we figure out the Griffey/Dunn thing and next year we win the Central!

i agree, in theory. however, i see one hole: catcher. while ross and bako are passable, i'd love to see the reds turn griffey and/or belisle into a catcher of some ilk. pitching wise, i'm sure weathers will be gone next year, as will fogg. while the bullpen should be fine, the rotation should really excel. i'd love to see bailey in the rotation now for experience (like cueto) because 2009 should see a red october.

I LOVE JOCKETY!!!

Patterson demoted to AAA!!!

The future indeed looks bright. I see Bruce getting most starts in OF, with Freel getting an occasional OF start for Griff or to spell Bruce while still covering every infield position as a backup.

Corey Patterson is awful. Also, I love the Reds actually running the basepaths aggressively - a double steal last night, and while Ross got thrown out trying to get home on a wild pitch, I like that he made the attempt.

I'd like the Reds to trade Griffey for a good right-handed bat or a left-handed pitcher. We have 7 left-handed hitters hitting in the order, and only 2 lefties out of the bullpen. Getting one of both of those for Griffey could definitely shore up some holes.
