Ok, so after this weekend I completely and totally retract
this post. The Notre Dame ship is officially in reverse and staring down the barrel of a slaughter in LA next weekend. My new position is why wait and allow another season of mediocrity... or worse. Thanks for ruining my entire Fall, Charlie.
I was the strongest Weis supporter possible all last season and this season as well. I thought things were improving. However, for me, the ship sailed in the 4th quarter of the Navy game. Dad can vouch for what I said after that game.
ReplyDeleteWe were thoroughly dominating Navy and almost completely shut down their rushing attack. Then, up less than 3 scores with over 10 minutes to play, he decides to empty the bench. Navy almost won that game.
It was just another in a long line of incompetent decisions that Weis has made proving he is not cut out to be a college head coach. In my opinion, this team doesn't know how to close out a game. We have blown so many leads this season it hurts. Fortunately, this week that won't be a problem!
As for what to do with Weis, I just don't know. I just don't think we can hire a replacement as good as him right now. If we do, we lose our top 10 recruiting class too. I think we have to stick with him for now. If he's the best we could get last time, we'll be hurting this time around!
I agree, ND is in a tough situation with Weis because a) the stability of the program will suffer with the loss of their 3rd coach in 7 years, b) recruiting could take a hit, and c) there aren't a lot of proven choices out there.
ReplyDeleteI think on the flip side, another season of Weis is a guaranteed season of frustration and another lost season of the 2 great recruiting classes currently there. It's simply delaying the inevitable...
My cat's breath smells like catfood.
ReplyDeleteGive him his 5 years, and then cut him loose. If you get 5 years, and the best you do is with someone else's players and you suck with your own guys, you can't expect to keep your job.
ReplyDeleteI say one more year for Charlie, but mostly because of the reasons that an gave about the program, recruits, and finding a replacement.
Has anyone seen the Cincinnati head coach? I think he could be someone to bring in! We don't want a big name anyway. Ara came to ND from Miami, Ohio, Lou from Arkansas via Minnesota. We need a coach who can built a program and develop players. Charlie just hasn't been able to coach these guys to the talent they are supposed/rumored to be at.
2007: 3 wins
ReplyDelete2008: 6 wins
2009: 12 wins!!!!
Another point: I wonder what the game plan will be against USC Saturday? Weis has NOTHING to lose and EVERYTHING to gain. I don't think there is a single person on the planet who thinks ND will keep it within 4 TDs.
ReplyDeleteAs a result, I am hoping for wildcat, flea-flickers, no-huddle, lots of deep routes, sneak onside kicks, hook-and-ladder, statue of liberty, fumblerooskie, cheap shot late hits on Sanchez and of course somebody has got to "accidentally" take out Pete Carroll.
